One of the largest Salt Pans in the world, this dramatic landscape offers incredible scenes over the endless horizons. Makgadikgadi is home to the famous Kubu Island which hosts a collection of Baobab Trees formed on a granite island jutting out from this great expanse. From approximately January through to April, tens of thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra can be spotted during their annual migration. From March until June, a sea of Greater Flamingos can be spotted on the southern edge of the pans, painting them in a sea of pink.

A scenic flight from any pans property offers an entirely unique terrain, not often associated with Botswana and definitely not to be missed.

Best experience of our lives! Our helicopter ride with helicopter horizons was incredible. We saw so much wildlife and just seeing everything from above was just amazing. The scenery and views were just breathtaking. Fondy our pilot was amazing, he was so kind and ensured we were comfortable and answered all our questions. He was so knowledgeable about all the animals that we saw. He also helped me propose to my girlfriend and for that I can’t thank him enough. He was able to get plenty of pictures and recorded the entire proposal. If you travel to Botswana Helicopter Horizons is essential to get the entire Botswana experience.

Bucket list trip par excellence! We’ve been travelling around Botswana for the last 10 days and as a final expedition, we took a flight over the Delta with Fondi at the controls. To say the flight exceeded our expectations doesn’t even start to describe the experience! It was a safari tour on speed without the lumps and bumps of the 4WD jeep used for the rest of our journey. Fondi was an excellent guide to the wildlife and the R44 a perfect platform for the journey. It’s not inexpensive but worth every penny.

Excellent flight over the Okovengo Delta We booked a whole helicopter for 4 people for 45mins ($1120 usd) and loved it. Note that they can be booked as part of a shared group as well. We actually booked via Kavango Air (who do small planes) but the flight was with Helicopter Horizons. The team answered questions quickly and well which was great for planning, especially as it was such a long time before we were travelling and a large cost to book. We paid on the day via card. My partner and I have done many such flights, and think this was fantastic. We travelled with the in-laws who havnt been in a helicopter before, who also thought it was great. One is now convinced this is definitely worth the outlay of money, and will certainly book helicopters again. The windows were all off, making for amazing photography opportunities. The downside to this was the wind, though that’s not something that could ever be overcome! And I would definitely not alter the windows off to fix the wind. The pilot (Daniel) was excellent. He travelled low to the ground, allowing for great wildlife viewing without interfering with them. When spotted, we would hover near by, and Daniel would make sure both sides had a direct view over the region of interest. We were in a Bell Ranger, which has room for 6, so had lots of room, was very stable and could travel the distances required in the delta quickly to see a lot. We were here in a VERY dry season (Nov, pre rains, as part of a very bad drought), but still had an amazing view of the wildlife and water. Overall, loved it, and would consider doing it again. Okavanga from a "birds eye-view" An awesome expirience to see the delta from this angle. Our pilot showed us as much as possible but above all respected all the wildlife by not flying in too close. It was out of this world.
